KARACHI, Aug 13: An anti-terrorism court on Monday issued a notice to the special public prosecutor on the bail application of Dr Akmal Waheed, a cardiologist, who has been arrested for violation of the fourth schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997.

The doctor was taken into custody on Aug 8 upon his return from the UAE for his alleged violation of the restriction imposed on him under the ATA schedule as he left the country in 2008 without intimation to the police.

Advocate Mohammad Farooq, counsel for the applicant, submitted that his client’s detention was unlawful as he did not violate any section of the anti-terrorism law.

The ATC put off the matter to Aug 16 and issued a notice to the special public prosecutor.

Meanwhile, the court extended the police remand of Dr Akmal for three more days.
