SADIQABAD, Dec 21: The illegal outlets of Abbasia Canal in Liaquatpur Tehsil, dismantled by the irrigation department some time back, have been reopened in connivance with some locally influential people including a Naib Nazim.

About 2,500 acres of agricultural land near Chak 240/R in Liaquatpur Tehsil have been a bone of contention between the Cholistan Development Authority and the revenue department for the last 30 years. The litigation was on when some 10 years ago, some influentials forcibly occupied the land and illegally constructed two outlets (159500 and 163000-R) in the Abbasia Canal without the approval of irrigation authorities.

The irrigation staff had dismantled the illegal outlets last week under the direction of SDO Anjum Saqib Rahmani.
