THIS is apropos of Rabbia Javaid’s article ‘Opening lines of communications’ (Magazine, July 15).

I appreciate the efforts of Dr Anjum Zia in establishing infrastructure for mass communication. This is indeed a commendable effort by an educationist like her.

She talked about research which goes side by side in enhancing quality education. I feel that we lag behind in research in our educational system. I have been writing from time to time in these columns on the importance of research. It is a pity to note that research and development standing of Pakistan is 92nd worldwide since 2008. This shows our lack of interest in research. In my opinion we believe in limited research and development but this is wholly unacceptable if we have to compete with industries in the world. Nobody can question the talent in our youths, they possess potential to accept all types of challenges if afforded an opportunity. I request all educationists in Pakistan to come forward and play their part as did Dr Anjum Zia for the betterment of our Pakistan.
