The general sense of apathy is largely driven by the "Aggressor-Victim" interpretations; While most of muslim world sees itself as the victim of policies of the Christian/Jewish west, and Hindu ( and now increasingly Buddhist East - Thailand and Burma being the cases in point), the rest of the world is viewing itself as the victim. The irony is - the victims in either of the two interpretations believe that "their" being the victim justifies reversal of the "Aggressor-Victim" roles. The concepts of "Humane", "Values", "emapthy" etc have ceased to exist. Adding to the aforementioned point - much of the Islamic world (read middle east), probably at this point beieves that the 'already' damaged reputation of Islam will not be served much by supporting this cause not realizing that is actually acknowledging guilt by doing so. Also, Islam in East (?) - they are not the arabic speaking, burqa clad, sharia following bunch, and so, a "we dont care attitude".
