ISLAMABAD: Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) confirmed the name of Czech mountain climber as Zuzana Hofmanova who went missing on Broad Peak a week ago.

This season Zuzana Hofmanova became the first Czech woman climber to summit Broad Peak, her fourth 8,000 metre high mountain, on July 31, 2012 but she vanished on descent the same day.

ACP Pakistan reported Ms Hofmanova dead on the same day. ACP said on Wednesday the body of the 53 years old had not been recovered.

Zuzana Hofmanova had also conquered the lowest of all 8,000 peaks: Shisha Pangma in Tibet, Cho Oyu also in Tibet and Manaslu in Nepal.

ACP had also confirmed the death of Muhammad Baqir the high altitude porter from Sadpara village in Skardu on Broad Peak. According to ACP, Muhammad Baqir had fallen into a crevice.

“Muhammad Baqir has also not been recovered,” said Member ACP Karrar Haidri. Baqir had lost his brother Ghulam Raza, who died climbing a 6,000 metre peak in 2002.

However, a total of 13 summiteers were reported by the ACP that day and in the season so far including two Chinese and two Nepali Sherpas, all on Broad Peak.
