LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 7: A free legal aid centre was set up in the district bar room at judicial complex here on Tuesday after the district bar association and Community Development Proramme (CDP) signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect.

Lakki bar president Niamatullah Khan and CDP representative Faizur Rehman signed the MoU to set up the centre.

Mr Rehman said on the occasion that the centre would help deserving people to get speedy justice. “A panel of lawyers will be formed to provide free legal aid to poor litigants,” he said.

He said that legal aid clinics would be held in remote areas to provide counselling to poor litigants on their doorstep.

He said that in the first phase such clinics would be held in five union councils, including Tajazai, Abdulkhel, Darra Pezu, Titterkhel and Masha Mansoor.

Mr Niamatullah welcomed the programme for establishing the legal aid centre and assured lawyers’ support to make it a success.

FOUR ARRESTED: Police arrested four people, including two militants, in separate actions here on Tuesday.

An official said that a police party, headed by SHO Lakki Asad Ali Shah, arrested two militants during patrol in Shah Hasankhel area.

“They were identified as Rashid Ahmad and Akhto Jan, residents of Shah Hasankhel village,” he said and added that both were wanted by law-enforcement agencies in cases of subversive acts.

He said that another police party of Ghaznikhel police station arrested two proclaimed offenders identified as Ghulam Qadir and Habibullah in Agari Khanzadkhel and Kakkakhel villages, respectively. He claimed that the arrested persons were wanted in attempted murder and electricity stealing cases.

Separately, Darra Pezu town police arrested a shopkeeper, Akhtar Zaman, in Tabbi Murad village and seized nine packets of fire crackers from his shop. They have registered a case against him.
