KARAK, Aug 3: Ice shortage on Friday led to a scuffle between two rival groups in Karak city.

A source in police said seven people suffered injures after they clashed over ice at a shop near Niazi Well stop on Indus Highway.

He said the two groups came to blows and used sticks in the clash, which left Jamshed, Asad, Khalid, Sarfraz, Gul Ali, Rahim Jan and Gul Faraz injured.

He said the injured were taken to a nearby hospital and discharged after minor treatment.

Seller Ahmad Hassan blamed ice shortage on excessive loadshedding and said factories were unable to meet the demand.

People said ice was selling at Rs90 per kg in some parts of the district, while Bahaderkhel, Darshikhel, Takht-i-Nusrati and Karak areas had ice in short supply.

They said police seized two trucks carrying ice blocks from Mianwali district to Karak. They added that one truck was seized near Karak police station and the other at Abadkhel checkpost.

Karak SHO Mohibullah said police seized the truck as the dealer sold ice Rs3,000 a block.

He said FIR was registered against the accused.
