RAWALPINDI, Dec 19: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) has dismissed its six employees on corruption charges, however, the dismissal orders have not been implemented due to pressure on the chairman by certain quarters, sources said.

All the six employees are clerical workers and their dismissal orders were signed by the chairman on December 10. The action was taken under Removal from Services Ordinance 2000. Sources said the orders might be withdrawn, as certain quarters were mounting pressure on the chairman.

The sacked employees are Malik Sohail Iqbal, Irshad Butt, Zahid Waraich, Zulfiqar Sethi, Jehangir and Hafiz Inayatullah. Sources said these employees had allegedly stolen result cards from the board office in 1996, committed fraud and misbehaved with the then chairman. The then chairman had constituted an inquiry committee with the principal of Government College, Chab, (Attock), Khizar Hayat Mujahid as its head.

The inquiry report had also found these employees guilty and recommended their dismissal about three years back. However, the case was shelved. When the incumbent chairman Dr Aziz Ahmad Hashmi took the charge, he reopened the case and issued dismissal orders of the six employees on December 10, 2002.

But again these orders have not been released. When the secretary board Zahoor Nawaz Awan was asked about the case on phone, he admitted that action had been taken against some employees under Removal from Services Ordinance 2000.

When asked about the names of the sacked employees, he sought some time to check their names. However, when this reporter again tried to contact him, he was not available for comments. When Chairman Board Aziz Ahmad Hashmi was contacted, he expressed his ignorance about the case.

When he was told that the secretary had admitted sacking six employees, he said: “Then it would be so, but such things go after my signature.”
