RAWALPINDI, July 30: An international Qirat competition was organised by Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) in collaboration with International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) on Monday.

Prof Habibur Rehman Asim, Dean Faculty of Arabic, IIUI was the guest of honour on the occasion while Prof Munawar Gondal, Dean Faculty of Language and Literature and Waqar Ahmed Resident Director RAC were also present on the occasion.

Young Qaris from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Thailand, Somalia and Pakistan participated in the competition. Qaris of International fame, Qari Bazurg Shah, Qari Dr Taj Afsar and Qari Dil Nawaz were appointed as judges for the competition while Mohammad Zulqurnain was the compare of the event.

The competition was divided into two categories. In the first category, Qari Zeeshan Haider secured first position while in the second category Qari Lutfullah from Pakistan got first, Qari Abdul Rehman from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia secured second and Qari Mohammad Muzzamil got third position.
