ISLAMABAD, Dec 19: The Iranian President, Mohammed Khatami, will pay a visit to Lahore as well during his first ever official visit to Pakistan next month.

This was stated by the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Aqae Sirajuddin Mosavi, after meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and PML-Q parliamentary leader Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in the federal capital on Tuesday.

Asked about the purpose of the visit, he said: “It was a visit of a brother country’s leader to an other brother country and both will talk and reach out at agreements of mutual interest.”

Responding to queries he said that both countries would sign three agreements during Khatami’s visit to Islamabad.

He said Pakistan had already given its consent to the gas pipeline through its land to India and no formal agreement was in the offing.

When asked whether the Iranian president would also discuss with Pakistani officials the issues relating to Afghanistan, Mr Mosavi said that Islamabad, Tehran, and Kabul were committed to work together for the reconstruction of Afghanistan and it would also be part of the talks.
