HYDERABAD, July 28: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has announced that development schemes at a cost of Rs2,500 million would be executed in Tando Allahyar this year.

Canals in the Naseer irrigation division would be remodelled to end water shortage in the area, he added.

Addressing a meeting of Sindh cabinet in Tando Allahyar on Saturday, he also announced establishment of seven police stations in Tando Allahyar and a public school in Chambar.

He said the main issues were construction of roads, lining of canals, remodelling of irrigation system, establishment of chamber of commerce and industry in each district headquarters and employment of youth. He said the government had provided jobs to 100,000 youths in Sindh, trained 160,000 youths in different skills, provided 70,000 acres of land to women, launched Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Income Support Programme with Rs12 billion to provide Rs350,000 financial assistance to an unemployed person.

He said seven hospitals were being constructed, each costing Rs600 million, in addition to establishment of separate anti-hepatitis programme unit in each district hospital.

Thar Coal Project was a mega plan of the government which would not only benefit Sindh but also Pakistan, the chief minister said.

He said cabinet meetings were being held in district headquarters to ascertain public problems and their solution.

Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq claimed that 23 degree colleges had been established in the province last year and 78 colleges were being established this year. Each taluka headquarter should have a degree college, he said, adding that one each degree college for boys and girls would be established in Tando Allahyar.

Provincial Irrigation Minister Jam Saifullah Dharejo said his department was planning to lay a permanent drainage system and rehabilitate natural drains in the province. De-silting and lining of canals in Naseer division were being planned. A sewage pumping station at a cost of Rs200million would be established in Chambar, he said.

The meeting was also attended by provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Muzaffar Shujra, Jam Mehtab Dahar, Ayaz Soomro, Mukesh Chawla, Mohan Lal Kohistani, Agha Siraj Durrani, Syed Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi and Syed Murad Ali Shah, MPA Imdad Ali Pitafi, Chief Secretary of Sindh Raja Mohammad Abbas, secretaries of different departments and public representatives.

Later, the CM unveiled the plaque of Bilawal Bhutto Public School.

Addressing a meeting of PPP activists, the CM said it was due to popularity of the PPP, opponents were approaching defeated leaders.

He urged workers to maintain unity and constituted committee to solve their problems.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference, the CM said the PPP always worked for welfare of people.

He said that last year the government provided 6000 tractors to growers on subsidised rates and would provide 15,000 tractors this year.
