GUJRANWALA, July 28: Swindlers took away a mango-laden truck after drugging the driver in Khiali Town on Saturday.

Truck driver Sarfraz of People’s Colony brought mangoes from Muzaffargarh for sale in the fruit and vegetable market. He parked his truck outside the market, where some swindlers trapped him in a fake bargain. In the meantime, they offered him a drug-mixed drink and he fell unconscious.

The swindlers drove away the mango-laden truck and Sarfraz was admitted to DHQ Hospital.

SHOT DEAD: An FSc student was shot dead and two passers-by were injured during a row over a petty issue in Dhingranwali Cantonment area on Saturday.

Brothers Irfan and Imran manhandled Yasir during a dispute over taking water from a hand pump first. Yasir told his father Abbas Ali, who admonished Irfan and Imran.

In the meantime, Yasir’s brother Amir Shahzad, an FSc student, reached there and quarrelled with Irfan and Imran, who manhandled his brother and misbehaved his father. One of the brothers opened fire at Shahzad, killing him at the scene and injuring passers-by Aslam and Arsalan.

Cantonment police took Irfan’s mother Nasreen and wife Shagufta into custody for misleading the policemen about the incident.

Police also arrested Riaz and Sohail in this murder case. Irfan and Imran were at large till Saturday evening. Police have registered a murder case.

ROOF COLLAPSE: Eight workers were injured when an under-construction factory’s roof collapsed on Ferozewala Road on Saturday.

Tariq was building third storey at his factory when its roof collapsed and workers were buried under the debris.

Rescue-1122 personnel reached the scene, rescued the trapped workers and took them to DHQ hospital.

The injured were identified as Babar, Ilyas, Baba Khushi, Chand, Umair, Fiaz, Asad and Akbar.

District Coordination Officer Amin Chaudhry and City Assistant Commissioner Salahuddin also reached the scene.
