KARACHI: The core-committee of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) met again here on Thursday and reaffirmed their resolve to finalise the draft of Sindh Local Government Act 2012 in the next few days.

Agha Siraj Durrani, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Muhammad Ayaz Soomro and Rafiq Engineer represented the PPP, while the MQM side was represented by Dr Farooq Sattar and Syed Sardar Ahmed, said a handout issued from the Chief Minister's House.

The committee further deliberated on various sections of the proposed local government law, and made progress on several points.

The PPP and the MQM were holding several rounds of meetings to craft a consensus LG law in Sindh before holding next local government election.

However, both sides stuck to their positions as the MQM wanted more powers for the local government as envisaged in the now abolished SLGO, 2001. However, the PPP preferred the SLGO, 1979 which envisaged comparatively less powers.
