LAHORE, July 25: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday directed the Gowalmandi police to complete investigation into an infant’s murder case against young doctors by the next hearing of a petition seeking quashment of the FIR.
As the proceedings started, Advocate Raja Zulqernain advanced arguments on behalf of the Young Doctors Association and said the doctors were dragged into the fake case only for observing strike for their rights.
He said the doctors nominated in the FIR were working at Services Hospital whereas the alleged incident took place at Mayo Hospital. He alleged that the Punjab government resorted to political victimisation against the young doctors.
Representing the complainant, Advocate Shamimur Rehman Malik argued that the accused doctors forcibly pulled the drip out of the vein of Fahad and other children.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan adjourned hearing till July 31 and directed the investigation officer to complete probe by next hearing.
Reply sought: The Lahore High Court issued notices on Wednesday to the Federal Board of Revenue and others on a petition challenging insertion of Section 153 (A) in the Income Tax Ordinance through the Finance Bill 2012.
The Mandiali Paper Mills Limited and its shareholders filed the petition requesting the court to strike down the Section 153 (A) of the ordinance by declaring it illegal and unconstitutional.
Representing petitioners, Advocate Anwar Kamal argued that the federal government had made it mandatory for manufacturers to collect one per cent tax from distributors, wholesalers and dealers involved in different types of business by inserting the impugned Section 153 (A).
He said stakeholders were not consulted before taking the impugned step, adding that authorities by doing so violated Articles 18 and 24 of the Constitution.
The counsel also questioned the parliamentary proceedings on the basis of which the section 153 (A) was introduced through the Finance Bill 2012.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard the initial arguments and issued notices to the FBR, the secretary finance, the secretary revenue, the secretary law and parliamentary affairs. Next hearing will be held on Aug 6.
