KARACHI, Dec 18: Satellite Star smartly ridden by jockey M. Nasir, streaked to victory at the Winter Gymkhana Race Meeting, held on Wednesday at the Karachi Racecourse.
Owned by Humayum Mirza and trained by Taj Mohammad, four-year- old chestnut colt never gave the connections any nervous moments winning the five furlong sprint by four lengths from Snake Eyed in an improved timing of one minute 5 3/5 sec.
Another fluent winner was Defence Academy partnered by jockey Shehzad in the third event. The chestnut colt won as he pleased beating nearest rival Mera Jugnoo by eight lengths.
Abr-e-Noor with riding boy Ghulam Haider in the saddle, won the opener by a handsome margin of seven lengths from Darbari Malang, with The Messenger and Miss Neutron completing the frame.
The next event was bagged by dark bay 12-year-old Richy Rich giving jockey Asghar Ali an arm-chair victory over Jango.
The bay three-year-old colt Charismatic Eyes with Nadim Akhtar aboard, galloped to victory in the fourth race of the afternoon, beating Just In Fun by four lengths.
The sixth race on the racing programme was cancelled.
In this race, a dark bay two-year-old colt King Cobra to be partnered by jockey Tahseen Hussain, making his first appearance in a race opened with the bookmakers at three paisas.
A record indeed especially for a two-year-old making its first appearance.
None of the owners of the other mounts participating in this race dared to challenge this sibling from Flaming Arrow out of Fearless Queen. Two of these owners who chickened out had two mounts apiece in his race.
No owner was even willing to try his mount for a place chance.
This must be the first time in the racing history of Pakistan such an incident occurred.
The Stewards helpless as to what was going on had no alternative but to cancel the race.
A one minute silence was observed for Nauroz Alijah, one of the most respected bookmakers, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 86 . The gentleman was laid to rest last night.
The next race meeting is scheduled for Wednesday May 25, (Christmas Day). On that day, the Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup will be contested over 12 furlongs.
Also on the programme is the 2000 Guineas Of Pakistan, Nursery Cup and the Christmas Cup.
