It was on July 10 that India for the first time had reported that one of its border posts had been encircled by the Chinese on three sides.

The announcement, which caused sufficient scare in diplomatic and political circles, came as the American Senate was discussing the Foreign Aid Bill, having direct bearing on India.

Thereafter, different reports playing up tension on the Sino-Indian border went on coming so long as the Senate continued its discussions.

Yesterday’s incidents in the Sinkiang area also coincided with voting in the Senate on the Aid Bill which India does not consider very favourable for itself. Incidentally a section of [the] Indian Press today again displayed reports claiming that India has accepted the Russian offer of MIG-21 jets for the Indian Air Force.

The report of the so-called Russian offer of MIGs was deliberately leaked out a few months ago when in fact there was no such offer from Russia.—Correspondent
