Two killed

ISLAMABAD, July 20: Two motorcyclists were killed in a road accident here on Friday, police said.

Bilal Ahmed and Baqar, residents of Rawalpindi, were hit by a speeding taxi at Shakrial.

The taxi driver escaped leaving behind his vehicle and injured on the road. Later the injured were shifted to the hospital where they were pronounced dead. The police impounded the car for further legal action and have started hunting for it driver. — Staff Reporter

Pamphlets seized

RAWALPINDI, July 20: Police seized pamphlets pasted inside ATM booths of commercial banks allegedly by the banned Hizbut Tahrir in the garrison area, police said on Friday.

However, no arrests have been made in connection with the seizure of the pamphlets aimed at inciting people against the government and its policies.

The pamphlets, some pasted on the walls of the ATM booths and others lying in plastic bags, were seen by people entering booths to withdraw cash.

Jawad Anwar, a security branch official, said in his complaint lodged with the Cantonment police that while on duty he was informed that pamphlets had allegedly been left by Hizbut Tahrir inside booths of banks on Bank Road, Kashmir Road and other areas of the garrison area. — Staff Reporter

Cloudy weather

ISLAMABAD, July 20: Partly cloudy weather is predicted for the twin cities on Saturday, the first of Ramazan. However, there are chances of light rain in the evening according to Meteorological department.

Weather officials said the seasonal low lied over north Balochistan and monsoon currents were penetrating into most parts of the country. Mainly hot and humid weather was expected in other parts of the country, however, rain/thundershower was expected at isolated places of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Zhob, Kalat, D.G. Khan, Multan divisions and Kashmir/Gilgit-Baltistan.

About Rawalpindi and Islamabad, the Met officials said there were chances of light rain in the evening.

On the other hand, doctors have urged the public to take precautions against the harsh effects of hot weather during the month of Ramazan.

They advised the public to avoid direct exposure to the sun, cover the head and neck parts and ensure maximum intake of water and other liquids such as salted lassi in Sehar and Iftar to prevent dehydration due to excessive sweating in the day.—A Reporter

Dud missile found

ISLAMABAD, July 20: A dud missile was found from a green area here on Friday while digging earth for construction, police said.

Police believed that it was one of the missiles from the huge Ojhri Camp arsenal which blew up on April 10, 1988 with devastating effects.

Some labourers were digging earth in Sector H-9 behind the Higher Education Commission (HEC) office for construction of a government office when they found the five-foot long missile.

Later they informed the police which reached the spot and took the missile in their custody besides cordoning of the area.

The bomb disposal squad was also called in at the spot which, after detailed examination, declared it dud and later took it away. A quick survey of the area around the discovery unearthed no other missiles. — Staff Reporter
