ISLAMABAD, July 17: Pakistan and India’s joint working group two-day meeting to enable trade of oil between the two countries remained largely inconclusive, an official commerce ministry source told Dawn on Tuesday.

The joint working group has been empowered to discuss in detail various issues, including infrastructure up-gradation, customs facilitation, and banking channels for facilitating oil trade between Pakistan and India, the source added.

Pakistan’s technical team left for New Delhi on Sunday for the talks, which was the third round of talks on petroleum products trade, and the next meeting is scheduled to be held in Islamabad, the source said.

Secretary Commerce Munir Qureshi told Dawn that Pakistan remained committed to pursue further trade liberalisation with its neighbouring country, as Pakistan has switched over its trade regime with India from positive list to negative list and both sides have also made progress on import of electricity and petrol.

However the joint working group has been given the task to finalise the impending procedures and deliberate upon details for trade of electricity and petrol.
