KARACHI, July 17: Acts of targeted killing continued in the city as five more people, including a worker each of the Awami National Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Jamaat-i-Islami, were killed on Tuesday.

A local leader of the Awami National Party, identified as Fazal Ameen, 40, was gunned down in a targeted attack in Sherpao Colony.

Police said the victim was checking his car’s radiator when at least two men riding a motorcycle fired at him.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died shortly afterwards. His body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy and later his body was moved to his hometown of Mardan for burial.

A large number of ANP workers also reached the JPMC and shouted slogans against the assassination.

Quaidabad police station SHO Amanullah Marwat said the victim was associated with cargo business. The motive for the killing was not yet clear, he added.

Following the incident, routine and commercial activities were also suspended in the locality while heavy contingents of Rangers and police were deployed to prevent any untoward incident.

Muttahida worker

A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was gunned down by unknown persons in Baldia Town.

Police said Aqeel was targeted by the assailants in Qaimkhani Colony, within the remit of the Baldia police station.Police said Aqeel was standing near his home when unknown suspects riding a motorcycle fired at him.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Following the incident tension prevailed in the area and routine and commercial activities were suspended.

Law-enforcement agencies said the victim worked in a factory and was associated with the MQM’s unit 112. The police, however, said they were trying to ascertain the motive for the killing.

JI local leader

A member of the Jamaat-i-Islami was gunned down by unknown persons in New Karachi.

Police said the incident took place in Sector 5J near Amir Autos, where gunmen riding a motorcycle targeted Abdul Rasheed, 26. Area people took the wounded to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he died during treatment, the police said.

They said Rasheed was the New Karachi Nazim of the JI. At the time of the attack, he was standing near his home. The dead was associated with garment business, the police said.

Other killings

A man was shot dead by unknown persons in the Manghopir area.

Police said Saifullah, 35, was gunned down in an act of targeted killing at Bhutto Mor in Manghopir.

Police officials said the victim, a massager, was sitting at a barbershop when unidentified men shot and killed him.

Pirabad police station SHO said the victim lived in Sultanabad and hailed from southern Punjab while the motive for the crime was not clear.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

Another man was killed by unknown persons in Nazimabad.

Police said the incident took place in Nazimabad where Altaf, 42, son of Ghulam Ghaus, was killed within the remit of the Shamim Shaheed police post.

The police said he was killed allegedly by his business partner Saleem over a monetary dispute. They claimed to have arrested the suspect and were investigating the matter.

In what police described as an incident of personal enmity, Rehmatullah was killed by his rivals who were also reported to be seriously wounded in the crossfire that took place within the remit of the Orangi Town police station, said SSP of District West Amir Farooqui.

In the Mawach Goth police limits, an unidentified man was wounded in what police described as a snatching attempt. The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
