QUETTA: The Supreme Court at its Quetta registry on Tuesday resumed the hearing of a petition on the law and order situation and human rights violations in Balochistan, DawnNews reported.

A three-judge bench of the apex court, comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja, was hearing the petition filed by the Balochistan Bar Association on the law and order situation in Pakistan’s largest province.

During the hearing, Balochistan's Home Secretary Nasibullah Bazai told the court that 101 persons were killed in the province in the month of June alone.

The chief justice asked of the home secretary as to what investigations the police had carried out in this regard.

Addressing the provincial home secretary, Chief Justice Iftikhar inquired as to what the government was doing to address Balochistan's "alarming situation".

He further inquired of the provincial home secretary as to who was responsible for the killing of Mir Akmal Raisani, the nephew of Balochistan Chief Minister Aslam Raisani.
