Opposing Ayub

Published July 10, 2012

THIS is with reference to Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf’s address to the People’s Law Forum in Lahore in which he stated that it was the Pakistan People’s Party leader who first opposed Ayub Khan’s so-called ‘basic democracy’ system and advocated for actual democracy.

In this respect, I would like to state that it was Miss Fatima Jinnah and her associates who not only were the first to oppose the concept of so-called ‘basic democracy’ but also contested the election against Ayub Khan opposing his concept. She was supported by Khwaja Nazimuddin, Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, Abdul Wali Khan, Asghar Khan, Maulana Maudoodi and many others.
