HYDERABAD: Three policemen arrested

HYDERABAD, Dec 15: The police on Saturday evening arrested three officials of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC), Karachi after they shot and wounded an unarmed occupant of a car and trespassed into his house to arrest him.

A formal FIR was registered against ACLC South’s ASI Mohammad Aslam Abbas, head constable Mohammad Saleem and constable Khalid Mehmood at the Tando Mohammad Khan police station on the complaint of a local land owner, Hyder Shah.

He is being treated at the Tando Mohammad Khan Taluka Hospital after he suffered bullet injuries, according to a police official.

The drama began when the members of the ACLC team, riding a silver-coloured Honda Civic (No.U-422), which is said to be a case property of the Azizabad police station, signalled Hyder Shah to stop at Matli-Badin roundabout.

Fearing that the policemen were dacoits, Shah accelerated his red-coloured Suzuki Alto (No-1490) and tried to flee.

The ACLC team chased him and finally fired at him. He received injuries nevertheless he drove the car right to his house.

The ACLC officials followed him into his house, which is located in the Meer Mohallah, to arrest him. The police officials reportedly held the family hostage.

A police source said that Shah’s family had informed the Tando Mohammad Khan police station.

Tando Mohammad Khan police rushed to the residence of Shah by which time hundreds of people had gathered there. The police asked the ACLC officials to surrender and took them to concerned police station.

The residents took to the streets to protest against the incident and blocked the main road.

The protestors dispersed after being assured of registration of formal criminal case against the ACLC team.

Tando Mohammad Khan police, after lodging lodged a case, seized their car as well.

A senior police official said that the ACLC team had made an entry about their arrival at the Hyderabad control and had stopped a suspect car, registered in Sukkur, but the car occupant had not stopped the car.

He also said that a counter FIR on behalf of the ACLC police officials would also be lodged though they have been denied registration of any counter case till the filing of this report.
