KARACHI, Dec 15: A small girl was run over by a water tanker in New Karachi on Sunday.

Police said that a water tanker (JP-5324) was returning after supplying water to a house in a shanty town Shah Nawaz Bhutto Colony’s sector 1-A/2, when a 2 1/2-year-old girl, Saba Erum, came under its wheels. She died on the spot.

The Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police impounded the water tanker, and arrested its driver, Kafeel Hussain.

CARJACKING: Fifteen vehicles — seven cars and eight motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Sunday, police sources said.

Three cars were hijacked. Four others were stolen.

ROOF COLLAPSE: A man died and another was injured when the roof of an under-construction house collapsed in Buffer Zone on Sunday.

Police said that two labourers were trapped when a roof of an under- construction house collapsed in Adam Town in Buffer Zone police limits.

One of them, Fahim, was rescued. The other, Ateeque, who fell unconscious, was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Four persons were injured when the roof of a house in a shanty town, Rahmanabad, in the police limits of Gulberg, caved in.

Police said that the owner was getting the second floor of his house constructed illegally. As a result of the roof collapse, a few neighbours were injured. They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where they were identified as Nasir, aged 35, Hussain, aged 28, Yaseen, aged 12, and Amna, aged two.

Police registered a case against the owner of the house, who is absconding.

WOUNDED: A teenage boy was shot and wounded when the rifle of a security guard of a residential complex went off suddenly in Buffer Zone.

Police said that the rifle of Gul Mohammed, a private security guard in a residential complex, went off accidentally. The bullet hit a 13-year-old boy, Mohammed Saeed.

The injured boy has been admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he is stated to be out of danger.

Police arrested Gul Mohammed and registered a case against him.
