HYDERABAD, July 3: A senior official of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) Imdad Afzal and his friend Syed Khalid Shah have reportedly been kidnapped from the National Highway near here a few days ago.

Aitmad Khan, brother of Imdad Afzal, has lodged a case at Hatri police station.

Imdad is currently holding the position of general manger freight management, KESC.

Talking to Dawn, Citizen Police Liaison Committee chief Ahmed Chinnoy said: “It is a kidnapping case and a gang known as ‘highway group’ is behind it…Right now I can’t share more information with you because we are working on the case”.

He said that Mr Afzal’s brother had met him. It is learnt that the family of Mr Afzal had received a ransom call.

An official at the Hatri police station said Aitmad Khan had stated in the FIR, lodged on June 30, that his brother Afzal and Syed Khalid Shah were returning from Peshawar when they were kidnapped.

He told police that last contact with his brother was established when he was reaching Hala at 7.40pm on June 27.

Aitmad refused to share details of the case while talking to Dawn and said that CPLC could be contacted in this regard.

Reports said that a Toyota Corolla car of the official was found abandoned in the jurisdiction of Phulelli police station on June 28. The incident is said to have taken place on June 27.

Police sources said that prize bonds and passports were also found from the car.
