PESHAWAR, June 28: A portion of a shrine was damaged when a remote controlled explosive device went off in Surizai area in the limits of Badhber police station here on Thursday. However, no loss of human life was reported.

An official of Badhber police station said that unidentified persons planted the explosive device in Mian Neka shrine and detonated it through remote control.

Referring to the findings of the Bomb Disposal Unit, he said that about one kilogram explosives were used in the blast. “Usually people, especially women and children, visit the shrine on every Thursday but the blast at Panj Pir shrine last week has scared people so no one was present at the time of blast,” the official said.

Another reason, he said, was that the blast took place in the morning while people used to come after lunchtime.

He said that a case was registered against unidentified persons. —Bureau Report
