ISLAMABAD, June 28: Girls notched two of the top three positions in Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Part II examination 2012 of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) as the board declared the results on Thursday with pass percentage standing at 81.34.

Minister for Professional and Technical Training Shaikh Waqas Akram announced the results at a ceremony in his ministry saying that the position holders will be awarded cash prizes and laptops and promised to arrange the ceremony in this regard soon.

FBISE Chairperson Shaheen Khan and other officials of the board attended the ceremony.The girl candidates from Taxila, Wah Cantonment and Lahore clinched overall three positions, two in science group and one in humanities group. Two positions in humanities were bagged by seminary students of Islamabad rural areas.

Capital city, however, secured second position in science group.

According to the results, Urooj Mustafa of Jinnah Education System, Taxila bagged overall first position in FBISE with 1,024 marks out of total of 1,100, Moiz Rehan of Islamabad Model College for Boys, G-10/4, secured second position with 1,022 marks and Sana Shahid of Garrison Academy for Girls, Lahore Cantonment got third position with 1,020 marks.

In humanities group, Ifra Urooj of Wah Islamic School of Excellence, Wah Cantonment stood first with 946 marks, Azizul Haq of Institute of Islamic Sciences, Satra Meel, Islamabad got second position with 945 marks and third position went to Mohammad Usman of Institute of Islamic Sciences, Satra Meel, Islamabad as he obtained 932 marks.

According to the board’s notification, out of a total 49,692 regular candidates, 45,206 candidates passed and percentage of regular candidates stood at 90.97.

However, in private category, 48.65 per cent candidates passed the examination as a total 14,635 private and ex-students appeared in the examination and among them 7,120 candidates could clear it.

The result was also available on the federal board website at the “www.fbise.edu.pk”.

The FBISE will conduct SSC Supplementary Examination 2012 from September 12.

Addressing the ceremony, Federal Minister for Professional and Technical Training Sheikh Waqas Akram congratulated the position holders.

He appreciated the dedication and motivation of girls toward education saying: “Girls are leading in both science and humanities groups, which is very encouraging. This change rejects the impression that girls are suppressed in this country and are not given opportunities to make progress in their lives”.
