MURREE, June 24: A 30-year-old woman was tortured to death allegedly by her husband and her in-laws here on Sunday. A.N, a resident of Kotli Sattian, was mother of a two-year-old boy and was eight-month pregnant.

Her parents alleged that she had been complaining of the quarrelsome behaviour of her in-laws who had also been torturing her for a long time, asking her to give them money.

The uncles of the woman, S.S. and M.S. claimed that her in-laws had repeatedly been asking her for her jewellery and when she refused, they tortured her severely.

When her condition deteriorated, the in-laws took her to a private hospital where she died.

According to the woman’s in-laws, she had committed suicide by taking some poisonous pills.

The relatives of the girl further alleged that the police, due to political pressure, were not registering case whereas Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital administration was also reluctant to issue a medical report.

When contacted, Medical Superintendent THQ Hospital Murree Dr Khalid Masood told Dawn that samples from the body had been sent to Lahore for detailed forensic and medical report as the case was sensitive.

SHO Kotli Sattian police station Sheikh Waqar denied that he was under any pressure, saying that case would be registered as soon as the medical report was received.—Correspondent
