Councillors want development funds

Published December 15, 2002

GUJRANWALA, Dec 14: A number of councillors including Naib Nazimeen of union councils have expressed resentment on district and Tehsil councils’ failure to resolve problems of the people and demanded funds for development schemes.

Some councillors said here on Saturday that a Nazim was empowered to spend Rs50,000 for the welfare of people in his discretion, but they were not allowed to spend even a single penny for the purpose.

They said the people were pressing for the supply of drinking water, provision of sewerage facilities and construction of streets.

They said there had been no change following the implementation of the new system in which bureaucrats’ ascendancy had been replaced by Nazimeen’s. They complained that government functionaries were not solving problems on their recommendations.
