FAISALABAD, Dec 14: Fourteen people filed their nomination papers for the by-elections of PP-61 here on the last date on Saturday.

Mian Anwar Ali, Afzal Naveed, Rashid Saeed and Dildar Ahmad Cheema filed their candidature from the PML-Q, while former MPA Zahid Mahmood Goraya and Qaisar Idress Gujjar are interested to contest elections on the PML-N ticket. Mian Abdul Rauf was the candidate of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal. Huma Zaheer Kaz-mi of the Tehrik-i-Insaaf, Khalid Saeed of the PML-J and six independent candidates also filed their nomination papers.

Interestingly, not even a single candidate filed nomination papers from the Pakistan Peoples Party (Parliamentarians). It is expected that the PPP would support the PML-N or the MMA candidate.

The Election Commission postponed the polling in the provincial constituency PP-61 due to the death of PPP nominee Advocate Mian Farooq Israr during electioneering of October general elections.
