HYDERABAD, Dec 14: Employees of a contractor continued to charge money from visitors in the Rani Bagh (the Municipal Zoo) in the name of entry fees, resulting in altercations with the visiting families.

According to the Naib Taluka Nazim, Rafiq Abbasi, the contractor has been allowed to charge only Rs2 per visitor but the employees of the contractor were charging each visitor an entry fee of Rs5.

The printed receipts, he said, did not contain the exact fees.

The UC Nazim, Qasimabad-1, Ali Nawaz Kutrio, and another Nazim Agha Zahid visited the Rani Bagh and asked the contractor’s employees to fix, display and charge Rs2 as entry fees from the visitors.

Kutrio has sent a letter to the district Nazim, Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, to apprise him in this regards.

The contract of the entry fees was given away at Rs600,000 and it is believed that the contractor had earned a huge amount from the visitors on the three Eid days.

Rani Bagh is the only recreational spot for the people belonging to the lower middle class. This is the first time that entry fees was imposed on the visitors.

The visitors, meanwhile, said that the contractor’s employees were also charging parking fees from the visitors and they were parking their vehicles on the Thandi Sarak Road to avoid parking charges.
