HYDERABAD, Dec 14: A division bench of the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad, on Friday directed the Nawabshah DPO to take departmental and disciplinary action against the SHO of Kazi Ahmad, Allah Juryo, and other police officials.

The bench, comprising Justice Ghulam Rabbani and Justice Mohammad Moosa K. Leghari, gave the order in the light of an inquiry report, submitted by the additional district and sessions judge of Nawabshah, in connection with illegal detention of a man.

Imdad Ali Khokhar had filed an application before the court, saying the SHO of Kazi Ahmad picked up his brother, Ghulam Kumbar, on July 1 and kept him in wrongful detention.

The district and sessions judge of Nawabshah appointed judicial magistrate-II Sohail Pervez Qureshi to visit the Kazi Ahmad police station after he was asked by the court on July 16 to depute a judicial officer to ascertain the facts.

Qureshi found Ghulam Kumbar in the lock-up of the police station without any entry or police record.

He asked police officials concerned to produce the detainee before the court.

ASI Abdul Ahmad, the in charge of the Wali Mohammad police post, produced the detainee before the high court on July 17 and filed his statement.

He said the detainee was a suspect in crime no 141/2001 and added he had made an entry at the police post after his arrest.

He said when the detainee was shifted to the Kazi Ahmad police station, the judicial magistrate-II paid a visit and found him without any entry.

The statement of the ASI and the report of the judicial magistrate-II were sent to the district and sessions judge who appointed the additional district and sessions for inquiry into the matter.
