HYDERABAD, June 20: Doctors and paramedics suspended work in the civil hospital here on Wednesday in protest against manhandling of a doctor by angry relatives of patients on Tuesday.

Doctors boycotted work in intensive care unit, outpatient department and casualty and other wards. Only emergency operations were allowed while those scheduled as per list of operation theatres were cancelled.

Doctors and paramedics held a demonstration outside office of the medical superintendent. They were demanding security and deployment of Rangers on the hospital premises. It had become a matter of routine that doctors were attacked for no fault on their part and they had to flee from the casualty ward, which put life of patients in danger, they said.
