KARACHI: Unseeded Sohail Shahzad, Muhammad Jawed, Khurram Agha, Sharjeel Mehmood and Shehram Changezi advanced to the quarter-finals of the Jubilee Insurance National Ranking Snooker Championship on the final day of the league rounds at Karachi Gymkhana Billiards Hall on Monday.

Agha defeated Mehmood  4-2 as the winners got top spot in pool D. Mehmood secured the runner-up spot.

Muhammad Jawed beat Muhammad Nazeer 4-2 to storm into the knock-out rounds. Similarly Sohail Shahzad of Sindh beat Muhammad Imran of Punjab 4-1.

Out of eight top seeds, fourth seed Muhammad Sajjad, fifth seed Naveen Perwani, 6th seed Abdul Sattar, 7th seed Vishan Gir and Muhammad Majid failed to qualify for the last out stage of the championship.

Second seed Asjad Iqbal looked the most impressive as he made the breaks of 82 and 67 in his 4-0 hammering of Vishan Gir. Asjad topped pool “B” with six wins and one defeat.

Shehram Changezi the lone entry from Islamabad was the other player to reach the last eight round from the same group.

The real battle for supremacy starts on Tuesday at noon with four best of nine frames quarter-finals. Asjad Iqbal clashes against Sultan Muhammad, Muhammad Asif takes on Sharjeel Mahmood, Sohail Shehzad meets Shehram Changezi and Khurram Agha playsMuhammad Jawed.
