UMERKOT, June 17: A job of Rs250 claimed the life of a man who was working on a faulty power transformer in the Sufi Faqir town on Sunday.

The deceased, Mohammad Saleh Mangrio, 25, had been working with Hesco lineman Shaukat Soomro for five years on daily wages.

Local people said the transformer had developed a fault leading to voltage fluctuation.

Following a complaint, lineman Soomro brought three men including Saleh, to repair the transformer. Saleh was working during loadshedding but power supply was restored ten minutes before schedule and he received shocks and died.

Hesco authorities and influential people did not allow doctors in the local hospital to conduct a post-mortem.

Saleh leaves behind his wife, three daughters and mother. His elder brother Wazir was electrocuted in a similar incident 10 years ago.

According to the local people, over a dozen youths are working with Hesco employees on daily wages. Employees themselves avoid working on electric poles because of risks.

When contacted, SDO, Hesco, Umerkot, Ghulam Akbar, said that private persons are not allowed to work on electric pole and it is an offence. If any Hesco employee was involved in such a practice, stern action would be taken against him.
