SIALKOT, Dec 13: The Sialkot additional district and sessions judge has confirmed stay order against demolition of centuries old Imam Sahib graveyard for widening of roads under a city development package.

The district government plan drew public criticism as the graves of Allama Iqbal’s parents and other family members were to be demolished.

A large number of people moved the court against the district government. The court had given a temporary stay which it confirmed on Friday.

Villager injured: A villager was injured seriously on Friday in firing by the Indian troops in Nangal village of the Sialkot working boundary’s Zafarwal-Shakargarh-Narowal.

Sources said that Babar Ali was passing through the fields when some bullets hit him, injuring him seriously. He was admitted to the Sialkot CMH in critical condition.

ARRESTED: Uggoki police on Friday arrested nine PPP workers, including the local party president, on the charge of gambling.

On a tip-off, the police led by Uggoki UC Nazim Khalid Dar raided on a shop and arrested PPP’s local president Munir Ghumman and workers Qadir, Ramzan, Asif, Haji Noor, Muhammad Malik, Qaisar, Tariq and Shahid Patwari.

A PPP spokesman alleged the police raid was the outcome of a political revenge.

Police released Shahid Patwari after allegedly extorting handsome bribe.

Police have registered a case against the arrested PPP leader and workers.

LOOTED: Four unidentified robbers late Thursday night looted cash, ornaments and other valuables worth Rs500,000 from passengers of two buses near Alnar village on the Sialkot-Pasrur Road.

Armed robbers stopped the buses by erecting hurdles on the road and deprived the passengers of cash and valuables. Before fleeing, they opened fire and bursted tyres of both the buses.

Passengers protested against the Badiana police for not chasing the robbers despite being informed them immediately.

Three armed bandits snatched a motorcycle and Rs2,000 in cash from trader Shahid Ali at Chowk Dogarwala, Uggoki.

In Boobak village, Zafarwal, six robbers snatched Rs25,000 at gunpoint from trader Shaukat Ali.

Thieves took away a luxury car (STK-6798) of exporter Muhammad Ibrahim Sheikh in Saddar Bazaar, Cantonment.

BOOKED: Civil Lines police on Friday registered a case against exporter Fraz Ahmad for giving a fake cheque of Rs300,000 to Muhammad Nawaz.

TEACHERS DEMO: Students and teachers throughout the district boycotted classes on Friday and held protest rallies on the premises of their respective institutions against the constitution of boards of governors (BoGs), Model University Ordinance and sacking of their leaders.

The protesters chanted anti-government slogans and demanded acceptance of their demands.
