PESHAWAR, June 11: Rejecting the 20 per cent ad hoc relief announced in the federal budget, the Muttahida Mahaz Asatiza Pakistan (MMAP) has announced to move towards Islamabad and stage a sit-in outside parliament on June14 to press the government to increase the relief.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, central vice-chairman of MMAP Khairullah Hawari on Monday criticised the federal government for giving only 20 per cent ad hoc relief in the budget. He claimed that 0.9 million teachers will participate in the protest.

“We have already presented a charter of demands to the government but it is yet to consider it and that is why unrest among the community across the country is fast spreading,” he said.

Flanked by other leaders of the MMAP, including Shahid Mehmood Gauhar, Qari Gul Saeed, Misbah-ul-Islam, Mr Hawari said the 20 per cent ad hoc relief was a cruel joke with the government employees especially with schoolteachers who were already in deep depression due to rising inflation.

He asked the government to add the ad hoc relief to basic pays and the rest of allowances be decided on the basic pay. He said the allowances like house rent, conveyance, medical and inflation allowances were next to nil and asked the government to increase these to 65 per cent in addition to increase in daily allowances.

CHARSADDA: The senior English teachers (SETs) have demanded regular grade-17 and their inclusion in four-tier formula till June 13 otherwise they would launch a mass protest campaign and stage a sit-in before the provincial assembly building on June 14.

The demand was made at a meeting of SETs with their president Mushtaq Ahmed Khan in the chair on Monday.

Apart from SETs, the meeting was attended by a large number of other teachers. After the meeting the SET teachers held a demonstration in front of the office of the Mohammadzai Union of Journalists at Farooq Azam chowk.
