LAHORE: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader and renowned lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan on Monday said that if Arsalan Iftikhar was guilty of any wrongdoing, it would not be the fault of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives at the Lahore High Court (LHC), Ahsan said that in the light of the constitution and the law, the chief justice should not have been on the bench hearing the case pertaining to allegations against his son.

A Supreme Court bench has been hearing a suo motu notice on allegations that Arsalan had been doled out Rs300 to 400 million by property tycoon Malik Riaz. The chief justice was on the bench but had later recused himself from it.

Ahsan said he was saddened when Riaz had shown him documentary evidence against Arsalan.

However, the matter is now in court and saying anything on it would be premature, Ahsan said.

He said Riaz's return to the country would reveal the truth behind several issues.
