KARACHI, June 9: A young man was shot dead and his friend sustained bullet wounds in a gun attack in the Garden area on Saturday, police said.

They said that the two friends — Arshad and Bilal — were sitting outside a puncture shop on Nishtar Road near Ali Bhai Auditorium where they were waiting to get their punctured tyre mended.

Two men on a motorbike emerged there and one of them fired shots at the two friends and rode away.

“Both victims were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi where Arshad died during treatment,” said an official at the Soldier Bazaar police station.

“Bilal underwent surgery and is said to be stable. The motive behind the gun attack is not yet clear but we are aware of a few facts that might help us connecting the dots.”

The victim, said to be in his early thirties, was a resident of Garden West, he said, adding that his elder brother Moosa Baloch, who allegedly had a criminal record, was killed a few months ago.

The fresh incident seemed to be linked to the earlier killing, he added.
