ISLAMABAD, June 7: The local administration on Thursday banned the entry of Malik Ishaq, the leader of a banned religious outfit, into the capital city for a week, sources told Dawn.

The order was issued from the office of additional district magistrate Farasat Ali Khan on the request of the police.

A report sent to the magistrate by the senior superintendent of police (SSP) said Mr Ishaq was scheduled to reach a mosque at G-9 which can create law and order situation.

The police also approached the administration of the mosque and inquired about the scheduled arrival of Mr Ishaq there.

However, the mosque administration expressed its ignorance about the visit and said no function or gathering was being arranged at the worship place.

However, the police warned the mosque administration of strict legal action if it hosted the leader of the banned outfit.

The police also contacted Mr Ishaq and asked him not to visit Islamabad as the capital city administration had imposed a ban on his entry into the city for a week.

The sources said the capital police also approached their counterparts and the administration of Rahim Yar Khan, the hometown of Mr Ishaq, and requested them to intercept him if he attempts to leave the area.

Mr Ishaq is the leader of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, which has been proscribed under the fourth schedule of Anti-Terrorism Act.

According to the law, he cannot leave his native town. Besides, he is also not allowed to enter a number of cities in the country, said the police.
