ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani disclosed on Wednesday that he had restored Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary after thinking on the issue for a whole night, DawnNews reported.

Speaking during a dinner hosted by the Acting Chairman Senate, Prime Minister Gilani said that he had restored all deposed judges including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary.

The institution of Senate stablised the country according to Gilani and the government would cause no hindrance in the upcoming elections rather it would ensure that elections are free and transparent.

While stating the clash of institutions as dangerous for the country, prime minister of Pakistan emphasised that institutions should work within their boundaries and that institutions interfering with each other results in a clash.

He added that the chief justice had been removed by a dictator, a move that was protested against by the civil society and that he had spent countless days in the police lock up for the cause of the chief justice.

Dictators have always amended the constitution to strengthen their hold onto the chair of power said Gilani and acclaimed President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari for empowering the parliament. He added that the leadership of all political parties contributed to 103 amendments in the constitution.

He added that he was not a dictator but he was from among the people only any unconstitutional move would push the country backwards by several years. No prime minster had completed the five-year-tenure at office said Gilani whereas he had spent five years in jail.
