ISLAMABAD, June 5: The Federal Minister for Religious Affairs, Syed Khurshid Shah, said on Tuesday that local government elections in all provinces would be held in September this year.

Talking to reporters here, he, however, said that dates would be decided by provinces.

He said that present assemblies would complete their tenure on March 20 next year and the next general elections would be held in May. The Sindh High Court had told the provincial government on May 19 to hold local bodies’ elections within 90 days.

Reports from Punjab suggest the province intends to hold the elections in August.—Staff Reporter
