RAWALPINDI: All Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations of Rawalpindi and Islamabad witnessed a great rush of vehicles on Tuesday night, following a countrywide strike call by the All Pakistan Compressed Natural Gas Association (APCNGA).

The strike call came a day before the three-day weekly gas holiday, which is observed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the twin city.

The APCNGA announced the strike call, which will start from Tuesday midnight, for an indefinite period. It demanded an immediate withdrawal of the decision regarding increase in the rate of Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC), saying It will cause a hike in CNG prices.

CNG stations across the country will start observing strike at midnight (12 pm) that will continue for an indefinite period, Central Chairman APCNGA Abdul Ghyas Paracha told APP.

Owner of Kandan CNG outlets Sheikh Waqar told APP that the strike will continue till meeting the demand of APCNGA.

The strike call forced motorists to fill the gas cylinders of their vehicles, which created a great rush at gas stations.

Long queues of vehicles were witnessed outside the gas stations in different localities of the twin city including Saddar, Satellite Town, Benazir Bhutto road, F-8 petrol pump where motorists spent hours while waiting for their turn.

Almost all the stations witnesses an unprecedented rush as they handled four to five queues at a time stretching over main roads, disturbing the flow of traffic.
