KARACHI, June 2: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has submitted its budget proposals to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah recommending that the tax base should be broaden by bringing all taxable incomes under the tax net.
Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday, MQM parliamentary party leader in the Sindh Assembly Syed Sardar Ahmed said that the party’s proposals for the financial year 2012-13 were handed over to the chief minister, who directed Sindh Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah to analyse them and take measures to incorporate them in the upcoming provincial budget.
Accompanied by other lawmakers, Mr Ahmed told journalists that the MQM proposals were for the welfare of the people of Sindh.
He said that besides the recommendation regarding levy of tax on all taxable incomes, the party in its set of proposals had stressed tabling of the Agricultural Income Tax Bill-2012 in the provincial assembly.
Mr Ahmed said that the proposals not only supported a subsidy on wheat but also on wheat flour with a view to bringing down the price of wheat flour, ideally to Rs750 for a 40kg bag.
He said the MQM had proposed earmarking of Rs160 billion under the head of development.—Staff Reporter
