QUETTA, June 1: A partial strike was observed here on Friday on the call of the All Government Teachers Association (Agta) to press the government for accepting its demands.

Teachers have been observing a hunger strike for 23 days. Markets in the main bazaar in the provincial capital remained closed. According to a spokesman for Agta, the strike was also observed in Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Chaman, Ziarat, Loralai, Qila Saifullah and other cities and towns of Balochistan.

Addressing a rally outside the Quetta Press Club, Agta representative Rehmatullah Sabir called upon the government to investigate the alleged embezzlement of development funds in the education department, revert junior officers, who had been allegedly given senior positions, to their posts and appoint senior officers to these posts, implement promotion quota and stop deducting conveyance allowance from salaries during school vacations.
