PIA retirees’ woes

IT is today’s retirees of PIA who laid the foundations of the national carrier with the slogan: ‘Great People to Fly With.’

However, all the hard work by PIA retirees is going in vain. The government and PIA do not recognise the loyalty and services of retired PIA officials. PIA retirees like me performed 20-hour duty at one stage, while they worked for 30 hours without a break during the 1965 and 1971 wars. It is clear proof of their obedience and devotion to the national airline and the country.

The prime minister says the world is facing inflation and high costs of living. Keeping this in view, would it not be fair to demand that there should be at least a 25 per cent increase in the pension of PIA retirees?

Inflation has increased 45 per cent, while the cost of living has gone up 100 per cent.

I request the authorities concerned to pay attention to the problems being faced by PIA retirees instead of focusing on trivial issues.

Pensions of all retirees should be indexed to cost of living movement; not just the retirees of PIA. There may be some PIA staff that deserves this merit; most of them behaved like spoilt bureaucrats bringing the PIA name to be asscsiated with sub-standard airline..

25 percent increase is practically impossible , I can understand 8-10 percent which is reasonable.

They made enough when they robbed PIA. All employees; both ex and current are as crooked as they come. I should know i worked with them.

The country is broke and PIA is broke as well. How do you expect this to be paid ? By printing money ? That would lead to more inflation.

I understand at one point it was agreed between PIA management and retired employees association that pension will increase at same percentage as salaries of employees. By not following this formula the gap has widened between salaries and pension of same category of employees. It is high time to give substantial raise in pensions and reduce this gap.

I do not understand how the PIA navigator and others wants more benefits. These emplyees have made PIA bankrupt due to overstaffing, abuse and use of free airline flights in first and business class for themselves and their relatives, rude behavior to the customers. Now they want more but from where the money will come.
