QUETTA, June 1: A son of a former provincial minister was killed in Spiny road area of the city on Friday, police sources said.

Maulana Ataullah Lango along with his son Imdadullah was going to his village by car when armed men opened fire. Imdadullah was injured and taken to the civil hospital where he died.

The sources said two suspects had been taken into custody and were being interrogated.

The sources said the attack took place when a procession was passing through the area.

Maulana Lango belongs to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl). He was elected member of the Balochistan Assembly from Kalat district in 2002 and served as minister.

Meanwhile, a police constable was shot dead in Nawan Kalli area. Constable Riaz Gul was standing at a bus stop when attackers on a motorcycle opened fire, killing him on the spot.

Police termed the incident an act of target killing.
