THE government has raised the non-practising allowance (NPA) of doctors working in government hospitals etc effective Aug 1, 2006 and fixed it at Rs4000 a month for doctors in BS 17 and 18 and Rs6000 for those in BS 19 and 20. Later on provincial governments also increased the NPA at par with that of the federal government’s.
Since August 2006 pay and other regular allowances of government employees have been raised but the NPA is still frozen at the level of August, 2006. Goverment doctors now expect a 100 per cent raise in NPA.
