PESHAWAR, May 29: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police on Tuesday decided to withdraw their guards detailed for the security of VIPs in the province against the rules.

The decision, which was made during a high level meeting here in light of shortage of staff and the delicate security situation, will come into effect forthwith.

The meeting was chaired by Inspector General of Police Mohammad Akbar Khan Hoti and attended by additional IGP (headquarters) Khalid Masood, additional IGP (operations) Liaquat Ali Khan, additional IGP (investigations) Masood Afiridi and all DIGs region at the Central Police Office in Peshawar.

The chair directed participants to ensure speedy registration of FIR by police in their respective regions on public complaints and said in case of non-registration of FIR, additional IGP (operations) should be informed by the relevant officials about its reasons.

The police chief also issued directions for improvement in investigation and production of reports in this respect at the end of every month.

He also asked participants to ensure that policemen work on different shifts and don’t perform duty for each other.

Mr Hoti said all police recruitment and courses would be carried out at district levels.

Participants thoroughly discussed the ways and means to streamline the functioning of different wings of police.

The police chief said from now onwards, no recruitment would be made to the department in the province.

He said a committee to be headed by the relevant DIG would complete enlistment process and would be responsible and answerable about the police recruitment and courses in the region.

Participants said a committee to be headed by DIG Qudratullah would streamline the service matters of police personnel and would submit a report to the government on it.
