Rockets hit Hayatabad

PESHAWAR, May 27: Two rockets were fired at the posh Hayatabad town in the wee hours of Sunday slightly damaging a house. According to the officials of Tatara police station the rockets were fired from the adjacent Khyber Agency.

It is worth mentioning that in the last few days, Hayatabad is being attacked with the rockets frequently. The continued rockets landing have spread fear among the dwellers of Hayatabad.—Bureau Report

Land dispute claims life

SWABI, May 27: A man was killed and another was seriously injured over a piece of land, said the police here on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Yar Hussain police station. Officials said that there was a dispute between two brothers over ownership of a piece of a land. Their sons opened fire at each other after exchanging harsh words. As a result, Jafar Shah was killed and his cousin, Latif Shah, was injured.

Both parties have registered FIRs against each other. The police launched investigation.—Correspondent

Polio vaccination

MIRAMSHAH, May 27: Agency surgeon Dr Rahim Nawaz has urged the parents to administer oral polio vaccine to their children to safeguard them against the crippling childhood ailment.

Speaking at a meeting held to review arrangements for the upcoming polio campaign on Sunday, he said only two drops of OPV in every campaign till the age of five to every child safeguarded them from becoming disabled. Such children, he said became burden on the society in future.

He said the polio affected legs and arms of children and made them incapable to perform like normal people.

Mohammad Amin, assistant political agent, was of the view that Pakistan required healthy people to serve it and asked the parents to fulfill their responsibilities by giving drops to their children. He said that people could enjoy lives when they were healthy and it was the prime responsibility of the parents to protect their children from host of illnesses.—Correspondent

JUI-F divided in Karak

KARAK, May 27: Differences have erupted among the leaders of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F, Karak chapter, over alleged misappropriation of MNA funds.

Insiders informed Dawn here on Sunday that there was a dispute of alleged corruption of Rs1.8 million in the development projects of the MNA funds between MNA Mufti Ajmal and party district general secretary Mohammad Ismael Haqani.

The sources added the party had been divided into three groups and one was led by Mufti Ajmal, the other by former district general secretary Zahoor Ahmad and the third by incumbent general secretary Mohammad Ismael Haqani.

The sources claimed that the district president of the party has decided in principle to remove Ismael Haqani from the slot. The sources claimed that district general secretary was being made scapegoat for hiding the alleged corruption of MNA Mufti Ajmal in the development projects.—Correspondent

Warden killed on road

TIMERGARA, May 27:  A traffic constable was killed and three others were injured when four vehicles collided with each other at Shago Kas in the jurisdiction of Timergara police station on Sunday.

Two mini-trucks coming from Mardan to Timergara collided due to over-speeding hitting another Suzuki pick-up carrying passengers from Adenzai. Another van, coming from the opposite side, rammed into these vehicles.

As a result, traffic constable Rahman Hussain, traveling in the Suzuki van, was killed on the spot, while Tariq and Mohammad Ramzan of Lahore and Ayaz of Kitiari Adenzai were injured. The injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital Timergara where their condition was stated to be out of danger. The Timergara police registered a case and started investigation.

Meanwhile, police diverted traffic on Old Kamrani road as the Chakdara-Timergara road remained blocked for traffic due to accident at Shago Kas area.—Correspondent

JI claims it will win polls

CHITRAL, May 27: Provincial general secretary of Jamaat-i-Islami Shabbir Ahmed Khan has claimed that his party will win the next general election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with majority and will form the government in the province.

Addressing the concluding ceremony of a two-day training programme for the party workers here on Sunday, he said the situation in the country had reached such an end that the people were now vying for change.

He said the party workers had already launched groundwork for the elections and had chalked out a plan for bringing voters to the polling stations. He said like the Arab Spring, change in Pakistan was inevitable but it will be through ballot.

Regarding the revival of MMA, he said the option of seat adjustment with any party, including JUI-F, was likely but there were many hurdles in the revival of the alliance due to the stubborn attitude of other parties.—Correspondent
