GILGIT, May 26: Police in Diamer district claimed to have arrested the ringleader of a robbers gang that was active on the Karakuram Highway.

“We have arrested the gang leader, which used to rob people not only on highway but also in various cities of the region,” said a police official.

The official said SP Diamer Bashir Ahmed constituted a team comprising three station house officers which arrested the ringleader of robbers.

Police said four pistols and vehicles were also recovered from the gang leader, who was brought before the court for seeking physical remand to carry out further investigation.

Police identified the accused as Sher Alam. Police are expecting a major breakthrough in light of the information received from Sher Alam.

HOTEL INDUSTRY: The hotel association has announced 20 per cent discount for the tourists coming from down country to give a boost to the dying hotel industry in the region.

An announcement issued here by the president of the hotel association said all those coming here for stay will be given reasonable discount.

“The decision has been made in order to boost tourism industry which has been almost collapsed,” the announcement said. It was further stated that the discount will be effective with immediate effect.
